Tips
Gamepads
For the best experience, I recommend using a PlayStation3-type gamepad when using these emulators. Why?
- PS3 controllers are USB or Bluetooth, both of which work on your Mac without any extra adapters
- PS3 controllers have a similar layout to a SNES controller (but with a few extra buttons and analog sticks), making it feel like a pretty natural SNES experience
- PS3 controllers can easily be used as an NES gamepad, and it's more comfortalble, to boot
-
With some set-up, a PS3 controller makes a decent substitute for a N64 controller. Here's how I do it (N64 buttons -> PS3 buttons):
- Analog stick -> left analog stick
- D-pad -> D-pad
- A & B -> Cross & Square
- Start -> Start (no surprises there!)
- Z -> L2
- R & L: R1 & L1
-
Left & Right C -> Triangle & Circle
- This keeps Left & Right C close to their original positions
-
Up & Down C -> right analog up & down
- I found that if I mapped all four C buttons to the right analog stick, it was too easy to make mistakes
