Macifom is easily one of the best NES emulators for Mac OS X, and it’s free and opensource! It’s still being developed, but it’s complete enough to let you play your favourite NES games on your Mac.

This version includes the following updates:

  • Increased gamepad compatibility
  • Code cleanup (now requires 10.6+)
  • More mappers added

New NES Emulators Added: HalfNES & 8Bit-Hits

I’ve thrown together some download & install instructions for two up-and-coming NES emulators:

  • HalfNES is a Java-based, cross-platform NES emulator
  • 8Bit-Hits is a Google Chrome web app, so it runs directly within Chrome
