SpeedofMac MP64+ Launcher Updated
We’ve been working hard on our Mupen64Plus 1.99.3 game launcher and configuration tool for Mac OS X Snow Leopard.
The latest update has a number of helpful features:
- More intuitive interface
- Rom launcher works just like Command+O in any other application
- Allows control of Mupen64Plus’ default window resolution and fullscreen settings
- Volume up/down controls
- Save state controls
- Hi-res texture options (turn on/off, add texture folder)
And we’ve added some really useful new features that all work without leaving the application:
- View your current MP64+ config file (mupen64plus.cfg)
- Edit and save your mupen64plus.cfg file
- Install a new, complete mupen64plus.cfg file (needed to change default settings
We’re really happy about this build, and we hope you will be, too! Please leave a comment below and let us know if it’s working for you!
Happy gaming,
John
Hi, I’m gonna go ahead and admit that I’m computer stupid when it comes to using osx’s terminal to change the settings for this program. I’m trying to figure out how to edit the config settings so I can use my wired 360 controller, but I don’t really understand where I need to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Working your way through settings files is never a whole lot of fun, and it isn’t very easy a lot of the time! To learn more about setting up controllers, check out the
Mupen64Plus Controller Setup page.
The file InputAutoCfg.ini is responsible for detecting controllers that are plugged in, and if the controller is recognised, it should provide you with a default setup so you can just play. If it isn’t working properly, you can change the setup or add a new one (check out the link above). If you want to change the InputAutoCfg.ini file, check out a post I wrote at MacScene.net for directions on how to change a controller’s button mappings.
If this doesn’t make any sense, let me know!
Thanks a lot! Your post helped me figure out how to open the config file, and I found out that it was just a misnaming problem on osx’s part in issue 312 on the mupen64plus google code site. All I had to do was change “osx: 360 controller” in the config code to “osx: controller” and it started working like a charm. Thanks again!
I’m sorry if the answer is right in front of me, but after reading all the instructions and some useful bits on the forums I still can’t get it to open any roms. I go to open rom and click the rom file I want to open, but nothing happens, the launcher doesn’t list the rom or open it or anything. Is there some special place that I’m supposed to put the roms or something? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hmm, I wonder why that could be. What’s the name of the folder your roms are in? I just checked and the launcher has a hard time with rom folders that contain spaces. I’ll get this fixed up. If this isn’t the problem, could you launch an application named “Console” (located in Applications -> Utilities) and then try to open a rom and see what it says?
First I will say that the launcher works good for me. Way more simple than using terminal, which I don’t know how to master:).
My question is about the controls. Is it possible to change the default controls on my keyboard? and if it is, then how do I do that?
I’m glad it’s working for you! You can change the default controls. If you go to the Configuration menu item and select “Open Gamepad Config File”, the first thing you should see is the keyboard settings. Beside each N64 controller button/control there’s a key code:
key(xx). To find the keycode for each keyboard key, you can use a program called “Full Key Codes”, which you can get at http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/21215.Thanks to Nick, who helped figure this out in his comments on this previous post.
Thanks a lot:)
You’re very welcome!
Hi, first I’d like to thank everyone involved in SpeedofMac MP64+. It’s an incredibly useful tool for those of us who are not coders and want to play N64 games on a mac.
I have one problem that I haven’t been able to resolve, though. I’ve edited the Gamepad Config file to correspond with different buttons that I’ve assigned (using button(#))for my PS3 controller but even though I save the file, there is no effect on the configuration in the games. The default configuration is used instead!
I’ve tried all sorts of things but I’m sure it’s just a simple step I’m missing, and would appreciate any help you guys could give.
Hello, whenever I try to open a rom with mp64+, absolutely nothing happens at all. The console message “Can’t make quoted form of missing value into type Unicode text. (error -1700)” I have no idea what this means. Please help me out. Thanks.
Are you using the launcher I threw together? If so, which version?
@Javier
Yikes, sorry for missing this! What version of the launcher are you using? Are the changes to your gamepad config file being overwritten when mp64+ is run?
The link to download the launcher is dead.
“File does not exist. Make sure you specified correct file name.”
@kolby386
I was messing with the download script yesterday, but it should be working now. If you’re still having difficulty, let me know which link is giving you trouble!
when i go to open a rom nothing happens!
@callum White
Does anything show up in Console.app when you try to open a rom?
