SpeedofMac MP64+ Launcher Feature Request

SpeedofMac MP64+ Launcher

SpeedofMac MP64+ Launcher

I’ve taken some time to polish up my Mupen64Plus launcher, cleaning up the code and making the preferences easier to use. This should be done soon, but before I put it up, I’d like to hear what you folk have to say about a few things:

  • What features is the launcher missing?
  • What features could be improved?
  • What do you like best about the launcher?

I might be able to include some more fixes and improvements to the launcher in the next few days if you friendly folk give me a to-do list.

I look forward to hearing from you!

John

p.s. This little launcher has been downloaded over 500 times. I’m glad it helps–at least when it works!

Mupen64+ Launcher Updated

SpeedofMac MP64+ Launcher

SpeedofMac MP64+ Launcher

The SpeedofMac MP64+ Launcher has undergone a minor update that should fix some problems caused by spaces in rom directories (oops!).

You can download the updated launcher at http://speedofmac.com/speedofmac_mp64+_launcher.html.

Let me know how it’s working!

Launch Mupen64Plus from Another Directory

If anyone is looking to use Mupen64Plus from the command line and wants to run a game from a different directory than your Mupen64Plus files, here’s a little Terminal code that will help:

cd '/path/to/MP64+/files' && ./run_rice.sh '/path/to/rom/file'

Here’s how to use it:

  • Replace /path/to/MP64+/files with the path where you’ve installed your MP64+ 1.99.3 files (/Applications/Mupen64Plus, for example)
  • Replace /path/to/rom/file with the path where your roms are located (~/Documents/Roms or /Applications/N64_Roms, for example)
  • Optional: replace run_rice.sh with a different video plugin (run_glide.sh or run_arach.sh)

Mupen Launcher Updated Again!

SpeedofMac MP64+ Launcher

SpeedofMac MP64+ Launcher

The SpeedofMac MP64+ Launcher has undergone another update. The files necessary to launch games with MP64+ are now included in the Launcher, so you don’t have to have Mupen64Plus installed in order for this to work, and it will work no matter which folder you put it in!

You can download the launcher at http://speedofmac.com/speedofmac_mp64+_launcher.html.

Enjoy!

Mupen64Plus Launcher Updated (Beta)

I spent some time today working on the Mupen64Plus launcher, and I was able to implement some pretty cool features:

  • Built-in rom browser that will load roms from your rom directory (Command + O will still allow you to manually select a rom file)
  • Preferences window (including rom directory selection)
  • Configuration menu option to open the mupen64plus.cfg and InputAutoCfg.ini files

To download the updated Launcher, head over to http://speedofmac.com/speedofmac_mp64+_launcher.html.

This version is working pretty well on this end, and we hope that it works well for you, too!

SpeedofMac MP64+ Launcher Updated

We’ve been working hard on our Mupen64Plus 1.99.3 game launcher and configuration tool for Mac OS X Snow Leopard.

The latest update has a number of helpful features:

  • More intuitive interface
  • Rom launcher works just like Command+O in any other application
  • Allows control of Mupen64Plus’ default window resolution and fullscreen settings
  • Volume up/down controls
  • Save state controls
  • Hi-res texture options (turn on/off, add texture folder)

And we’ve added some really useful new features that all work without leaving the application:

  • View your current MP64+ config file (mupen64plus.cfg)
  • Edit and save your mupen64plus.cfg file
  • Install a new, complete mupen64plus.cfg file (needed to change default settings

We’re really happy about this build, and we hope you will be, too! Please leave a comment below and let us know if it’s working for you!

Happy gaming,

John

Testers Wanted: MP64+ Mac GUI

I’ve thrown together a basic Mupen6Plus+ Mac GUI for anyone who’s interested (Snow Leopard only, I’m afraid). It’s an application that lets you choose your Mupen64Plus window resolution, whether to run Mupen64Plus fullscreen, and a button that will let you choose a rom file to open:

What’s new in this GUI:

  • More intuitive interface
  • Rom launcher works just like Command+O in any other application
  • Allows control of Mupen64Plus’ default window resolution and fullscreen settings
  • Volume up/down controls
  • Save state controls
  • Hi-res texture options (turn on/off, add texture folder)

It hasn’t been tested on another computer, so I don’t want to release it widely yet. Leave a comment if you’re interested in trying it out!

If you have been trying it out, leave a comment with your observations, comments, or issues. That way, we’ll be able to learn from each other.

Mupen64Plus Game Launcher Fixed

Mupen64Plus Rom

Thanks to feedback from a visitor named Nick, we were able to fix a problem with our Mupen64Plus game launcher. Remember: the folder your game files are in has to be the frontmost window in the Finder. Otherwise, the launcher might try to open up whatever is selected in the front window, and it will get terribly confused. We’re looking into a better way of making this work.

We’ve uploaded the new version at our Mupen64Plus: Launching Games page. Leave us a comment and let us know if it works for you!

Tutorial Added: Install Mupen64Plus 1.99.3

Mupen64Plus

We’ve added a new tutorial on how to install and use the latest version of Mupen64Plus (1.99.3), which was released this past week.

Because MP64+ runs from the command line (Terminal), it’s a little tricky to get working–but don’t worry: we’ve made it really easy for you to start playing games. All you have to do is drag a rom file onto our Mupen64Plus Game Launcher, and you’re good to go!

If you’d like to learn how to install Mupen64Plus 1.99.3 (the best N64 emulator for your Mac), set up our game launcher, and more, check out our Mupen64Plus page!

If you have trouble with installation or set-up, or if you have any questions or comments at all, leave a comment below and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

Freeware App Added: Mupen64Plus

We’ve added a new installation guide for a Nintendo 64 emulator for Mac OS X Intel machines: Mupen64Plus.

Mupen64+

The guide is for version 1.5, released in early 2009. Version 1.99.3 was released today, and we’ll be posting a guide on it soon. We posted version 1.5 because it has a working graphical user interface (GUI), and you can use it without knowing command line stuff.

Check out our tutorial on how to download and set up Mupen64Plus for Mac OS X. Enjoy!
